Upon Attending UP SummrShowcase/Monthly Mix-Tape ClubAll I want to say,
and I think Marty put it best as he drove me from Ridgewood to the airport in Newark, NJ: "It actually feels like we
started a scene." I can't help but agree, and to honestly be able to include myself in the we is extremely exciting. Thanks so much to: Ari, Brody,
Sawyer, Martin, Heather, Jenny, Alex, Bleeker, Matt, Etienne, Will, Samuel, Andrew, Liam, Mcgregor, the many Ians, the dude
who gave me an apple, dude who worked at the Papaya Burger across from the Market Hotel who talked with me about the greatest
African soccer players of the day, all the bands that killed it, all the fans that felt it. Beers. Thanks to everyone who
helped with setting up the show in any way and/or who attended the show and, especially everyone who played the show. You
guys, I mean we, DID IT! Francis Chung took this picture. He also smokes Newports I think.
Very cool. I want to tell all of you
about the monthly mix-tape club, but first I must tell you that Fluffy Lumbers' Cruisers, aka Track 1 - Side
A of WAKR Vol.2, was recently on the Forkcast which is very cool as Sam is a truly great guy. Keep your eyes
open for a possible GBV tribute comp in the works soon...
...and finally, Monthly Mix-Tape Club!
Starting September 1st Wild Animal Kingdom is proud to present an offer to you, the buyer, the consumer, the music lover,
the cassette-as-a-medium enthusiast to join our club! Here's the idea: Each month a guest selector/DJ puts together a mix-tape
encompassing, in the selector's opinion, one artist or band's greatest work, but basically just the selector's favorite songs
by one group or musician per month/per tape. Each month's artist is a mystery until the very last second when you finally
tear open your spray-painted envelope, W-A-K-R-M-MT-C stamped all over it, to see a shining cassette with beautiful artwork
and a name, an artist's name at last this month's mystery solved! Perhaps in the future this will turn into more of a "mix"
mix-tape, but at least until the November issue the tapes will be collection's of on of our favorite artist's masterworks
according to one of us. To join MM-TC, I ask
only that you pay for the shipping of the tape from Olympia to anywhere in the continental US for only $1.50
Monthly or for a full year subscription $18.00 so essentially the actual cost of the musix and tapes are free
for you! Issue #1 should be in the mail by
Friday! Hurry up!
